Pageant Winners Teach Homeless How to Show Their Sparkle
USA Ambassador Pre-teen & Former Miss America to Host Pageant Workshop for Homeless Girls
Orlando, FL– The Orlando Union Rescue Mission (OURM) is getting some sparkle this weekend, thanks to USA Ambassador Preteen, Sophie Schaked. The 11-year-old got inspired to create and host the Show Your Sparkle Pageant at OURM after a tour or the Family Home Campus. “When I came to volunteer at the Mission, some of the girls admired my crown and wanted to know how I became the title holder. That’s what inspired me to give the girls an opportunity to earn crowns and sashes of their own!” Celebrity support joining the Show Your Sparkle Pageant includes Miss America 2014, Ericka Dunlap and new pop recording artist Austin Malone and Mr. Florida, Timothy Richardson.
Garnered by Community support to join in and produce the Show Your Sparkle Pageant. The two-day event begins on Friday, May 26, with the girls arriving by limousine to JCPenney Salon for makeovers and professional headshots from the Portrait Studio. The event continues on Saturday with workshops at OURM geared to raise awareness of the work that’s necessary to compete in a real-life pageant. “I want the girls to feel truly special all day long. If they feel beautiful, confident, happy and surrounded by friends…then it will be a memory that will stay with them no matter where their life takes them,” said Sophie Schaked.
