Basic Needs – Orlando Union Rescue Mission

Basic Needs

By taking care of our guests' basics needs, we free them of the burdensome experience of homelessness and grant them the space to focus on spiritual development, self-improvement, and all the life-transformative possibilities available to our guests at the Mission.

By having two homes — our Family Home and Project Hope — we can best address the unique needs of all of our guests in a safe, cost-effective way.

At the Family Home, we provide:

  • Long-term Transitional Shelter for Single Women, Single Mothers, Single Fathers, and In-tact Families
  • Private Bathrooms for Families
  • Semi-private Bathrooms for Single Women
  • 3 Meals a Day

At our men's home, we provide overnight guests with:

  • Shelter
  • Communal Style Bathroom
  • A Warm Meal
  • Nightly Chapel Services
  • Laundry Facilities

At our men's home, we provide our long-term work rehabilitation guests with:

  • A Room
  • Semi-private Showers
  • 3 Meals a Day
  • Laundry Facilities
  • Christian Counseling

Help Supply for the Needs of Our Guests

Just $1.24 provides a meal for someone who is hungry, hurting, and and homeless.

Basic Needs We Meet Include:

Meals

We serve 3 nutritious meals a day, 365 days a year to our guests as well as to anyone in need in the community. Breakfast may be cold, but lunch and dinner are always well-prepared, warm meals. In addition, the Mission hosts annual Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas banquets, where we serve between 600 and 1,000 meals, per event, to the homeless and hungry.

Shelter

Whether staying as an overnight guest in our men's home or living as a long-term resident, we provide those in need with a roof over their head and a bed to sleep on. While overnight guest share a room, long-term residents receive a room of their own or a semi-private room with one other roommate.

Hygiene Items

When guests move into the Mission, they receive a basket of all the hygiene supplies they might need as well as new, clean sheets and pillows that are theirs to keep. If guests have a specific need or run low on supplies, their case manager will ensure they are restocked free of charge.

Laundry Facilities

Washers, dryers, detergent, and more are available for our guests to use at appropriate hours, free of charge.

Bathrooms & Showers

Guests can find a place to clean themselves and freshen up for the next day. Our maintenance team and guests in our Discipleship program ensure this area is kept clean for all.

Compassion

Once a part of the Mission, guests can expect staff and case managers to support, listen to, and guide them towards a better future. Each guest's needs and situation is unique, and case managers will tailor to the individual.
