Investing in the Community – Phoenix Landscape Solutions
Residents at the Mission are watching their food grow – literally – thanks to hydroponic towers donated by Shawn and Kylee Logan, owners of
Phoenix Landscape Solutions. The towers, located in the dining rooms at the Family Home and Project Hope, have generated lots of excitement and two crops so far. Kylee served meals at the Mission as part of a service project when she was a student at Rollins College, so when they were considering a place to serve, the Mission came to mind. As part of her degree in Environmental Studies, Kylee studied hydroponics and gardening, so the idea of donating the towers came naturally. She also hopes to teach classes at the Mission in the fall about pollinators and their importance in the environment. Their company, which Shawn and Kylee started four years ago, installs and maintains landscapes at Marriott and Hilton properties, from International Drive to the Disney area. They are very focused on investing in and building up the community. “Pour yourself into the community, and the community gives back,” she says. They seek to create a positive corporate culture for their employees, run their businesses with integrity, and serve others through philanthropy. The couple homeschool their two children, Bella, 14, and Magnus, 9, and have recently been approved as foster parents. This is especially near to Shawn’s heart, as he spent most of his childhood in foster care. Kylee, who as a college student led a team of 11 men in Manitoba with National Geographic tagging polar bears, is well equipped to handle a house full of children. She even grows her own food for the family, including eggs from her chickens. At the Mission, we are so happy to be blessed by fresh greens and herbs, thanks to the generosity of Shawn and Kylee.
