“I had the best night’s sleep in my whole life.” That’s how Krystal Glaser described her first night as a guest in the Mission’s Family Home. She entered the Mission following a history of domestic violence, drug and alcohol abuse, and stints in jail. Krystal and Aiden, her son, arrived at the Family Home in September 2024, and it changed their lives.
They completed the Mission’s Victorious Life Class and accepted Christ, and Krystal took a parenting class and participated in Jobs Partnership and Celebrate Recovery. She began working in the Family Home kitchen and ultimately graduated from the Second Harvest Culinary Training Program.
“At first, I was so nervous,” she says, “but we learned so many cooking techniques, financial skills, and discipline. It was an incredible experience.” She graduated at the top of her class and now cooks for a local Hilton resort.
Aiden, now fifteen, is flourishing as a ninth-grader at Jones High School. He is on the honor roll, plays trumpet in the band, plays sports, and is a member of the Beta Club.
Krystal has been sober since she entered the Mission, participates in AA regularly, and worships at a local church. She is saving money to be able to afford an apartment. She recognizes the profound way the Mission has transformed her life. “I never knew God before I came to the Mission,” she commented. “Now, my son and I have a relationship with Him and with each other.”
